The dark dresses busily contrast so well with the young man’s sober suit. Miss Baker’s wearing a beautifully embroidered dress with a matching filigree necklace, and Miss K is wearing a square flap collar dress that seems to be sheer by the neck. Oh, and the big frou-frou hats with the fluffy feathers, a proper lady’s outfit isn’t complete without one of those!
I wonder if these women were dressed in mourning.
Leonard Hahn was from Montgomery, Kansas and was 25 years old when this photo was taken.

What a lovely find, my favourite has to be Miss Baker’s outfit, the embroidery on the front of her dress is amazing. The hats make me smile and remind me of a short piece I posted asking Victorian and Edwardian women to remove their hats in the theatre

Their big hats remind me of a series of funny postcards about the ‘big merry widow hat’ getting in the way of everything and everyone!
It is a beautiful picture. I love collecting dudes but women have great fashion. If there’s a gent in there I’m still in the theme is what I say lol.

The Merry Widow did start the trend for the larger hats, musical comedy theatre has a lot to answer for ;-)
I much prefer postcards of ladies although they do tend to sell better with a resulting increase in cost.

I learn something new every day! A very informative post, thank you. I didn’t know the musical started the trend, interesting. Kind of makes me glad I don’t have to sit for an hour at a vanity to put on a hat lol.
You forget though, I have many gay collectors to compete with lol!

Thank you, glad you found it interesting. The stage was often a vehicle for designers to show their clothes and equally many women bought dresses that featured in the shows.
