I think the name is “K. Schwärzel”, followed by a Zirkel (symbol used in Central European student societies). I think it is a student with a scar from a duel. I recommend the chapter “At the student’s dueling ground” in “A Tramp Abroad” by Mark Twain (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:1880._A_Tramp_Abroad.djvu&page=63). It’s good reading and gives an mpression of student’s habits back in those times.
