A mini dandy in training

rppc-1920s-dandy-in-training

Dandy boy in studio prop top hat. Private Collection.

This boy’s evening suit is well tailored, but his studio prop top hat adds a touch of humor to the look. What a cutie!

The cigarette was most likely a prop too (it looks lit but with no smoke). I would think responsible parents considered tobacco to be like alcohol and didn’t let their children start this early (I don’t think he’s even 10).

The mystery occupational tintype

This teen is posing with a CDV size piece of paper in his hand. He’s also sitting on what looks to be a hanging dark oil cloth. He’s resting his arm on some sort of machine behind him. A Difference Machine as was suggested by another collector? I’m not sure but this looks to me like it is photography or plate printing related. The seller thought it was a voting machine. A person suggested it is a balustrade, but I digress…I welcome opinions.  What is it?

1928 Bulgarian Duo

rppc-bulgarian-duo

Bulgarian duo dated 28 Dec. 1928. Private Collection

A duo that took their picture during the Holidays of 1928. I don’t know if anyone else but me is seeing this, but the buddy on the right reminds me of one of the dancers in Madonna’s Vogue music video of the 90’s, but if he were in his teens.

What’s not to love? II

rppc-cocker-spaniel

A Cocker Spaniel and his owner. 1910’s RPPC. Private Collection.

So sweet! This real photo postcard dates from the late 1910’s, this young gent in cap and dotted bowtie casually posing with his Cocker Spaniel companion, on the steps of a house’s front porch. He’s not looking at the camera but is posing like one would in a modern photoshoot!

This is the third photo in this collection of gents from the period with their beloved pets. The others are here and here.

Mr. Handsome with the twinkly eyes

rppc-edwardian-handsome-1

1910’s young man. Private Collection.

This handsome young gentleman (only identified as C.H.P.) has a twinkle in his eyes as if none of life’s negativity had yet to darken his soul, but this photo most likely dates to around the Great War. His hair is swept up too; it remains conservative but just a bit different, as any youth would attempt to be.

His breast pocket with the buttons is an interesting detail. With his ample cut suit and collared shirt I’d date this excellent portrait to be from the mid to late 1910’s.
