The 1880s unknown Indian War U.S. cavalry officer

Image copyright Caroline Ryan. Original from cabinet card of private Collection.

Digitally enhanced picture from cabinet card of private collection.

A gorgeous portrait of an American infantry/cavalry officer. He’s standing proud with his arms crossed, his sword on the side. He’s wearing white gloves and a high collar below his dress coat. He moved ever so slightly, and it seems he has a scar on his nose.  I cleaned it up and played with the contrast some, and quite like it this way.

His belt buckle.

The Indian War officer belt buckle.

The card is blank on both sides, what a pity. No name either.

‘Slinky’ the WWII era U.S. Army fighter pilot.

Candid. Private Collection

4″x6″ signed snapshot of WWII U.S. army fighter pilot nicknamed ´Slinky’. Private Collection

Brave ‘Slinky’ is in harness and light gear, looking up above where his mind is at. Did he earn his nickname by doing some graceful maneuvers in the sky?

Happy Memorial Day, and let’s remember him and the many others who put their lives on the line to protect this country.

The sailor’s hat reads H.M.S ROCKET. His standing brother is beautifully dressed in an outdoorsy suit with corduroy riding trousers. Love the patterned waistcoat with the striped tie…He had style.

A cute snapshot for the day.

Cadets, high collars and a camera

cadets and suited men on porch. RPPC. Private Collection.

These American military school cadets are sitting on the steps of a (fraternity house?) front porch with other men, young and older, in civilian suits. I wonder who they were and what they were to each other.  The man to the far right is holding a box camera with both hands.
