Two gents on rowboats. RPPC. Private Collection.
Under his cap the poor gent to the left is scarily all skin and bones. Either he was naturally lanky or he was sick; his wedding ring is loose on his finger. His more healthy-sized buddy (or brother – he looks like him) is holding the rowboats together for the picture.

Two with ferns. RPPC. Private Collection.
I remember seeing footage of families waving fern at departing WWI soldiers. Fern is a strong symbol of protection and the love and care of family and community. These two look close and each have fern in their hand. The gent on the left reminds me of Liam Neeson.

Giving the pup a drink by the wagon. RPPC. Private Collection.
These three are hanging out by an untethered wagon, perhaps a father and his two sons. The bottles they’re holding look ‘dusty fresh’ from the cave; maybe this was the homemade kind of fizzy drink. The puppy on top of the metal milk jug survived and most likely went on the hunt for a fresh bowl of water right after. Ha!

1910s worker with anvil and hammer. RPPC. Private Collection.
The gent to the right with his pipe in mouth is IDed as Ed Herndon, the handsome worker with the hammer and anvil is unfortunately not. His hands are darker, from the soothe of burning coal? Oh, ladies broke things on purpose with this one. ;)
Ed has a pose I find humorous because it makes him look so impatient. This was taken in the American countryside of the 1910s with an apple orchard in the back, or some field of other fruit trees.

Toddler in white dress. RPPC. Private Collection.
This little guy came with the bridge workers. Seems like all pictures from that lot came from the same family album, so I think this boy may very well have been one of the workers’ children. And he’s too cute not to post! He was made to pose standing on a chair with his immaculate ‘dress’ and worn out shoes.
Note how modern the chair looks!
