1890s-1900s European circus performers. CDV. Private Collection
The CDV is blank, back and front, but someone wrote their names and even the circus they toured with. Unfortunately I haven’t found info on either the circus or this pair of dancers/circus performers. I can’t even begin to imagine what their lives were like performing on the road back then. What do you think, siblings or a couple? It would make sense to imagine siblings growing up training how to dance, and they look similar.

God I love circus photos! I have one or two myself. I think you could be right that they are siblings. What was the name of the troupe? Nothing in any newspapers? That is the only place I have found information on old circuses that toured Australia. A general search on Google doesn’t bring up much.

I’ve only tried Google. To me this looks like they were English touring Europe, and a person who speaks another language – which I don’t know, wrote their name. If I were in Europe I guess it’d be easier. Maybe it was a French circus, by the name.

Oh, very cool! Thank you. :) Will check it out tomorrow. To find out they went all the way to Australia would be something to discover!
