Hand & Arthur in Buffalo fur coats. RPPC. Private Collection.

Hans & Arthur in Buffalo fur coats. RPPC. Private Collection.

Buffalo or bear fur coats must have been heavy but did their job protecting the wearers against the deep freeze of Northern winters.

The 1880s fireman and his ornate horn

The fireman. Tintype. Private Collection.

The 1880s fireman. Tintype. Private Collection.

A beautiful tintype in excellent shape of an American fireman posing with his horn and cigar. This picture captured his uniform in crisp details.

I just so love the ornate speakerphone-like horn with the mouthpiece and sling. I wish I had a time machine to see him shouting in it for people to get out of the way. :) And he’s wearing a ribbon on the shirt representing some kind of event.  The CW must have stood for the town he worked for.

All in all, a very handsome fireman who posed splendidly some hundred and thirty years ago.

Biederer’s Adam and Eve

Biederer nude couple in field. Private Collection.

Biederer couple in field. Private Collection.

Oh look, I’m posting unclothed people from the 20s or 30s.

This is another postcard by one of the Biederers or both, this time an outdoor shot of a nude woman in the arms of her semi-clothed man. This couple is quite beautiful and I did not censor the postcard. It looks like it was published as it is. I wonder if there is an uncensored version that was also out.

I love the pose, and while this was daring for the time it still could pass for art (and it is).

WWII soviet army soldier in tree

Snapshot. Private Collection.

Snapshot. Private Collection.

This WWII era red army soldier was awarded quite a few medals. He’s leaning against a tree branch for an artistic portrait of himself. He’s posing without his ‘pilotka’ side hat on. The photographer may have been one of his ‘comrades’, the peaked top of his hat being the shadow on the sitter’s arm. Yes, that’s a stretch but maybe not too much. ;)

Friend or foe? Depends if this was taken before or after 1941. :)

Mr. Alpha and company

Two canes, three hats, a mustache and a whole lot of attitude. Tintype. Private Collection.

These three 1880s gentlemen by a balustrade are all very well-dressed, the one to the right with the creased pants, the other to the left with a tight-fitting striped pair. All are wearing Windsor ties typical of the decade.

The men look like they were business partners. The confident attitude of the man to the left makes him look like a ruthless go-getter. Roar!
