Crackerjacks cute

Well, what have we here, a cute as a button American sailor in white crackerjacks with the square knot neckerchief and dixie cup hat? Why, yes!

I guessed this one to be from the 40s by the style of picture portrait. The truth is this uniform is still to this day a service whites. This enlisted sailor could be from the 50s too, but I don’t see this picture to be more recent.

A little interesting factoid: sailors have a tradition of placing a coin in the center of the Neckerchief knot so if they get lost at sea they will have money to pay the ferryman across the river Styx.

The gent on the left looks like he’s much too focused on his hand to pay attention to what’s going on. The group picture? What? I’m about to lose my shirt! Either that or it was so good he wasn’t going to ruin the mojo. ;)

The one in the middle looks charismatic. There’s always one.

This is about RPPC size but the paper’s flimsier. There’s some glue residue from being in an album.

A slice of life on a picture! This laughing man is all well dressed in a three-piece with a boutonniere. Perhaps he was at a wedding and this low river bed nearby got more and more tempting as the hot day rolled by. Those stream and river beds are slippery too. With a hand in pocket and the other holding shoes, he left no room for a wrong step..!

WWII soviet army soldier in tree

This WWII era red army soldier was awarded quite a few medals. He’s leaning against a tree branch for an artistic portrait of himself. He’s posing without his ‘pilotka’ side hat on. The photographer may have been one of his ‘comrades’, the peaked top of his hat being the shadow on the sitter’s arm. Yes, that’s a stretch but maybe not too much. ;)

Friend or foe? Depends if this was taken before or after 1941. :)

The late 1940s smiling photographer in fedora

Fedora, check, smile, check, camera, check. A nice candid taken at a low angle in the sun. I think this was taken in the late 40s or early 50s. The camera he’s holding looks like a variant of the Kodak Tourist I or II which first came out in the late 40s. I’m pretty sure this is a Kodak by the style of flap to the side. Agfas were similar but the flap opened from the bottom. Those would set you back about $750 in today’s money.

This man’s well dressed yet casual with the polo collar over the coat lapels.
