The 1910s Canadian worker smiling in cap and overalls

A smiling Canadian worker. RPPC. Private Collection.

Hm…give me a hammer. I need to make some holes in the wall for this guy to come by. Then I can lounge with a piña colada and watch him work. Ha ha! Seriously, what a cutie smiling in his white work overalls with the turtle neck, cap and rubber boots. A painter perhaps, or a plaster worker?

RPPC: AZO 1904-1918. The RPPC is ‘Made in Canada’ and the dealer is from Nova Scotia. I assume this gent was from the area.

Reading a long letter at Elk Lake, Oregon

RPPC. Private Collection.

1908 C.J Catlow at Elk lake, Oregon. RPPC. Private Collection.

This cute RPPC was posted on Christmas Eve 1908 and took two days to get to its destination (stamped twice). This is C.J. Catlow reading a three page letter while lounging on studio grass. He sent a Merry Christmas note to another family member, Chester Leroy Catlow from Ephrata, Washington.

C.J. was at Elk Lake in Oregon (as hand written on the picture I edited out), and this was most likely taken at a studio nearby. The postcard was mailed from Salem.

Looking at the shells on his belt, he may have been on a hunting trip.

A gentleman by the name of E.A. Ford from Iowa Falls in an artistic portrait of himself. The photographer sent him the picture, calling it a ‘dandy time at home’.

A beautiful black couple from Ohio

African American couple. RPPC. Private Collection.

Circa 1915-1925 African American couple. RPPC. Private Collection.

This photo was taken in Cincinnati, Ohio around 1915-1925. The couple is nicely dressed, and the man is displaying a couple of pens in his breast pocket -ie- he was educated and wished to show it. He also has a nice cap on his knee -wish he’d put it on!
His wife is dressed in a white lace dress, resting her hand on his shoulder. A beautiful, airy photograph.

Pictures of African Americans of the days are rare, and even rarer are couples -from what I’ve seen (or rather NOT seen). I was happy to find this one at a reasonable price. This couple may have been of mixed origins too.

Kurt and Herbert of Berlin

RPPC. Private Collection.

Kurt and Herbert. RPPC. Private Collection.

A very crisp and clean RPPC of two smartly dressed kid brothers holding hats with the black visor.  Apparently these were only popular with German boys and men at the time. The backdrop with the corinthian column gives this picture a luxurious, wealthy feel, and these two are posing like their adult counterparts.

I’m guessing this was taken around 1900-1905. They’re IDed on the back with the city of Berlin as their hometown. If anyone can make out the last name, here’s the back note:

Kurt and Herbert [...] Berlin
