Cross-legged on low chair

Cross legged on low chair. Tintype. Private Collection.

This young gent with a hint of a smile looks relaxed on this low chair. It makes him look tall. I’m not sure what the backdrop is supposed to represent, maybe a fireplace. The checkered flower design to the right is a mystery, a creative wall decoration most likely.

“Mac”

“Mac” portrait. Private Collection.

Picture perfect “Mac” posing in three-quarter with the brilliantined hair. I’m in love with the grainy and thick paper of those period studio portraits, they are really beautiful in person.

Student posing with book

Young man with book. Tintype. Private Collection.

This bright eyed assured young man is posing with a book in hands. He made sure the title shows, unfortunately it is unreadable! The book looks to be too thin to be a bible. I think he was a student or perhaps even, an author? I believe this tintype is from around the 1870s-80s. I got this one for a little above a measly dollar, a great find!

The Art Deco Cabinet Card

1930s cabinet card.

1920s-30s cabinet card of gentleman after the rain. Private Collection.

I love stumbling upon photographs like this. This cabinet card was made around a couple of decades after they ceased being produced. Perhaps it was a novelty photograph, or some photographers still offered them to whomever wished to have a “retro” portrait of themselves. There is no photographer info, unfortunately, but instead we have “cabinet portrait” surrounded by a gorgeous mirrored art deco design.

And the fact that this portrait was taken outside in a yard right after a rain. Those photographs always have a special glow to them.

Young gentleman in dress shirt, most likely from the late 1910s. He looks a bit jaded.
