A gorgeous portrait

Cabinet card. 1890s. Private Collection.

I love everything about this cabinet card; the pose, the handsome subject in his flawless attire, and the set-up with the vase and curtain taking half the space in the background. This young gentleman doesn’t look a day over twenty- if he even was- but he was married already. His swept hairstyle adds to the youthfulness.

Confidently Yours

Circa 1870-80. CDV. Private Collection.

This unidentified young man posing in front of a plain backdrop comes off as comfortable in his skin. And the tilted hat adds flair to the otherwise nice but generic suit.

Alas the back is plain with no photographer info. I hope the kid did well for himself, he sure looks like he had the self assurance.

A fine Edwardian portrait

I found this handsome teen while going through a pile of pictures and I can’t believe I didn’t post him sooner. So clean-cut, so proper. His folks surely gave their seal of approval. Alas, this boy with his whole future ahead of him is not identified.

That delicate flower patterned white tie he chose to wear that day is lovely.

What’s not to love?

Wag, wag, wag goes the tail. RPPC. 1900s. Private Collection.

This photograph makes me feel all fuzzy and warm. The puppy is loving its brand new daddy who’s holding it like the big baby it is. It posed front paw over the other, wagging its tail so fast the camera only got to catch the white end trail of it.

And the two ladies of the house watching from behind the window. Had this young gentleman just come from inside to get his new companion? It looks like it could have been a St. Bernard or a Bernese. No matter what breed, this was love at first sight for the both of them, and it shows.

Victorian young man of St. Johnsbury, VT

Ivorygraph. St. Johnsbury. Vermont. Boston. Young man. Cabinet Card. Private Collection.

A near pristine high contrast three-quarter portrait from circa 1880-90. I’m very pleased how well this cabinet card was preserved. Except for a couple of tiny scratches, it was carefully stored and looks amazing for its age. The cardstock is unblemished and still its original color: a lovely, clean shade of cream.

The back of the card is blank, and unfortunately this fresh faced budding gentleman with the Windsor tie wasn’t IDed.
