He’s resting his hand on a fringe chair so popular with photographers of the Victorian era. The fringed support area was adjustable and most often used for people to rest their arms on while seated. He looks taller than average for his era too.

A wonderfully detailed CDV of a gentleman posing in a yard in front of a window. A gypsy table is by his side with a flower vase and a few books and notebooks on top. Let’s not forget the white lace curtains behind him, and the crocheted doily table topper! The composition was well thought out and comes out nice.
And this man has a very classically intellectual pose, his hand resting on the temple. I wonder what he was…a writer, a professor?

This is one of those tintypes that makes me smile. The gentleman looks so victorian with his mustache, but the backdrop here’s the real star and the reason why I added this one to my collection. It’s just so quaint!

I could find much information about Frank Newell Libby, thanks to his name and birthdate affixed to the back of this 1/6th plate tintype.
