Another tintype for your appreciation. This chap reflects my mood tonight. Now I’m going to have a drink too. Cheers, chums!

1880s tough cowboy in a straw hat

Tintype detail
I spent way too much on tintypes and other miscellaneous photos this week, so I had to see this one slip by. Nooo! The dilemma of every collector: gotta make choices.
Ah, but what a guy! And he’s wearing cowboy boots; a country folk! Tintype guys with attitudes do make great sitters!
A broody Edwardian

Detail of vignette RPPC. Private Collection.
In an effort to look serious this pretty one in a nailhead patterned suit came out a bit broody under the tilted hat! Still a cutie!
This RPPC vignette is on the left half of the card, leaving enough space for messages to the right.
RPPC: PMO. Photo taken between 1907-1915
In depth: 1911 private Stephen Moravyk and the Mexican Border War

Detail of RPPC. 1911. Private Collection.
The pose is great and the young man is the poster boy for a recruitment advert. So I set to research some more about him. If you want to find out how the process went, keep on reading.
Photobooth Paul in a straw boater

Success! Private Collection.
Handsome Paul knew how to pose! Instead of looking right into the camera he’s staring off giving his best angle. This was most likely taken in the 1930s or early 40s, looking at the sharp point of the collar and lapel style. This photo offers a nice close-up view of what a straw boater looks like, and it is super nice with the double band detail.
