A boy’s exciting day at the photographer’s studio

Cabinet photo. Private Collection.

“I’d rather be doing something else”. Cabinet photo.Circa 1900.  Private Collection.

First, look at this little cutie of a sister! Isn’t she just adorable smiling in her white dress and oversized bow in her hair? She’s standing on a chair to be at her older brother’s height, and he seems so thrilled to have his picture taken.

Winnie and Harry: two peas in a pod

A very happy couple. RPPC. Private Collection.

A very happy couple. RPPC. Private Collection.

There must be some truth to the belief that happy couples start to look alike. This is Harry and Winnie Bowman, and don’t they look happy or what? They have this glimmer in their eyes. Two peas in a pod these two. Unless they were brother and sister, but I don’t see siblings posing this way.

The note on the back is sweet too. “To our loving little girl, from Winnie and Harry Bowman.” Addressed to Miss Eva Sloggy. Ontario. Wis.

Not a country folk like you!

Something uplifting now. Mr. Life of the Party is standing apart from his group, accessorized with a coat, top hat, cigar and cane. His buddies are laughing at his staged city boy cocky attitude (and I am too). Two women found it funny as well, but the four in the middle are more interested in taking a good picture of themselves!

Stereotypes were and always will be funny. This group seems to have had quite a good time on a sunny summer day. This picture was taken in Nebraska sometime in the 1910s.

1880s post mortem of little boy

Most of the time I’d rather post happy pictures, but this one tugged at the heart. A friend of mine said “doesn’t he look peaceful?”

This boy was loved. The way they placed his body, as if he’s asleep.

A Man of God

Cabinet card. Private Collection.

1890s cabinet card of priest. Private Collection.

A nice portrait of a priest from Manchester, New Hampshire. I’m tempted to say more but I’ll refrain. >:-)

The front is blank but the back is light pink with the busy but pretty photographer logo of the 1890s.
