I’m ambushed but I don’t mind

Smiling WWII soldier. RPPC. Private Collection.

Smiling WWII soldier. RPPC. Private Collection.

This soldier with the wide smile is surrounded by a crowd of one man in pork pie hat and four women (in the shot -looks like there were more people including the photographer). Were they congratulating him, showering him with thanks? We will never know, but what we know is he ate up all this attention! (With his eyes on the brunette closest to him.)

The soldier’s wearing a Brodie helmet -with the camouflage net which was a lot less common. Those helmets were issued for both world wars but to the British, Australian, Canadian, New Zealander and South African troops during the second. Americans wore the more rounded, iconic M1.

When you injure yourself on the day of your photoshoot appointment! This charming gent has a very playful smile on his face. Under his tilted hat he’s posing with a bandaged finger prominently displayed. He could have easily hid it but chose not to.

The Edwardian crossdresser with the large bow

Edwardian crossdresser couple. RPPC. Private Collection.

The sitting man looks serious yet the crossdresser isn’t afraid to smile. An interesting picture from the 1910s raising more questions than it answers.

Smiling Hans and Arthur in buffalo (or bear) fur coats

Hans & Arthur in Buffalo fur coats. RPPC. Private Collection.

Buffalo or bear fur coats must have been heavy but did their job protecting the wearers against the deep freeze of Northern winters.

Sitters: Hans Tweet and Arthur Rusminssen

Gentlemen at the fair. 1910s-1920s. RPPC. Private Collection.

This picture was part of a lot of RPPCs I got months ago. Sometimes I’ll buy a cheap lot just for a particular picture, but there’s always a few other ones in the midst I’ll like, like this one. The taller gent on the right is wearing a two button coat with matching trousers, and a square patterned tie. His buddy is wearing a flower on the lapel with a light striped pair of pants under his three button coat. This must have been taken during a summer drought; the grass looks brown and their shoes are dusty. I like the pose of the smiling gent on the left, it contrasts with the more serious attitude of his buddy who can’t wait for the picture to be over with. The hand on the hip thing…that’s how everybody’s grandpa used to pose! :)
