A gorgeous vintage 7″ by 10″ photograph of the Jazz Jesters, a Northern University jazz band founded by Jimmie Caldwell and based in the Chicago of the early 20s. I can’t help but imagine the wild soirees these five slick musicians played for, and how much illegal alcohol they saw flowing.

This photograph is attached to a grey album backing with a note stating the organist (Jimmie Caldwell) played at a venue (I can’t decypher) in Omaha.

Brave ‘Slinky’ is in harness and light gear, looking up above where his mind is at. Did he earn his nickname by doing some graceful maneuvers in the sky?

Leo with two lady friends IDed on the back. This photo was taken on the 9th or March 1910.

The dark dresses busily contrast so well with the young man’s sober suit. Miss Baker’s wearing a beautifully embroidered dress with a matching filigree necklace, and Miss K is wearing a square flap collar dress that seems to be sheer by the neck. Oh, and the big frou-frou hats with the fluffy feathers, a proper lady’s outfit isn’t complete without one of those!

I wonder if these women were dressed in mourning.

Leonard Hahn was from Montgomery, Kansas and was 25 years old when this photo was taken.

Who needs a horse when you can ride an ostrich?

A funny souvenir RPPC of a bespectacled man enjoying his ride atop an ostrich at the Cawston Ostrich Farm in California. The other’s reaching up to pet it. The man riding the bird is also carrying a 3a Kodak portable folding camera used to make RPPCs.

Another wonderful J.H. Kent photograph added to the fold. This time a CDV of a toddler boy placed behind a sofa with his hands over the back. I love how plain everything is so the focus is exclusively on the sitter, and I love that one of the buttons of the jacket is undone. No matter how still the pose seems, this is still an active little kid!
