The smiling Victorian bride with her handsome groom

Wedding photo cabinet card. Private Collection.

1890s-1900s wedding photo cabinet card. Private Collection.

This beautiful bride is smiling in her long wedding dress with the puffy sleeves at the elbows. Can I say I love the groom’s shoes? I love his shoes! They look made for each other these two.

‘One of those happy moments’

Ooh the dripping sarcasm of this one! This is a funny twist on the romantic kissing couples found on the cards of the period.  When three’s a crowd is exactly it! The standing man doesn’t look too happy. The other gent stole the woman of his heart, and he is kissing her right in front of him.

He’s standing so close to them too. He looks like he’s going to say “EXCUSE ME SIR!” any second now.

This one was posted on October 20, 1918. Most postcards were posted within a year of being published, so this one was made in 1917 at the earliest.

Turn of the century duo of circus performers

1890s-1900s European circus dancers. CDV. Private Collection

1890s-1900s European circus performers. CDV. Private Collection

The CDV is blank, back and front, but someone wrote their names and even the circus they toured with. Unfortunately I haven’t found info on either the circus or this pair of dancers/circus performers. I can’t even begin to imagine what their lives were like performing on the road back then. What do you think, siblings or a couple? It would make sense to imagine siblings growing up training how to dance, and they look similar.

The flapper and her lover -series of 5 risqué Biederer postcards

Risque couple RPPC. Private Collection

Kissing her bare back. Postcard. Private Collection

These Jacques Biederer real photo postcards are blank on the back and slightly vary in size from one to the other. There are traces of album scrapbook on the backs. These were highly collectible back in the days, as they are today.

In the following 4 postcards I found online she’s wearing the same thigh high stockings and shoes, and he the same suit and tie:

Apparently these two were a favorite of the photographer. I found them in several series.

Something that took me aback and kind of bothers me…a lot. These postcards go for a mint, however I’m amazed there isn’t a regular Wikipedia entry for this talented photographer (and his brother). It’s a sad fact and should be fixed!

The Peach Romance

1920s French romantic postcard. Private Collection.

1920s French romantic postcard. P.C Paris #1721. Private Collection.

She’s holding a rose and he’s posing in evening wear. I love the softness of these tinted cards, they carry a sense of nostalgic romanticism that is not seen today. Dainty and sweet. And I love her watch.
