I imagine these lovebirds were on vacation by the seaside on a summer day, and took a souvenir picture of them together at the local photographer.

Late 1860’s CDV. Private Collection.
A CDV in exceptionally clean condition. It looks as good as new. The young gentleman has the typical stately pose of the era with his arm lightly rested over the column’s foot. He is wearing high shine square toe shoes and a three button baggy overcoat over a large bowtie in fashion at the time. By looking at his hairstyle, the CDV design and the lack of tax stamp this picture was most likely taken between 1866-1870. This sitter is (omg) giving us a hint of a smile. Detail after the cut.

RPPC circa 1910. Private Collection.
Teo at 21 years old. He looks like my little J.C. Leyendecker guy to the right.

Private Collection
1/6th plate of a brunette teen boy sitting cross-legged on a wicker chair. Most likely an American. I read somewhere -alas I can’t remember the source- Europeans (especially the English) liked to keep their suit pants and coat’s color matching. Americans were more adventurous and mix-matched (those crazy yanks!). This seems to be true from what I’ve seen so far.
An interesting bit of info on this collar after the cut.
Vignette RPPC of a young man from Petoskey Michigan. He’s wearing a tilted Gatsby cap highly popular in the twenties he lightly placed over his well combed hair. He’s also wearing a raised round stud on his tie. Once again, no name. What a shame. With that cute smile he must have been popular with the ladies!
The whole RPPC after the cut.
